Chatfield captured a snapshot of Brownsville just before the turn of the century. He provides a general history of Brownsville and includes many photographs of the city, as well as buildings and homes of prominent residents. He has a section on weather statistics that describes what Brownsville was like in 1893. He also provides descriptions of schools, churches, and residences, and profiles prominent citizens. All in all, it is a great book for learning about Brownsville in years gone by.
